As I’m sure most readers are aware we don’t use affiliate links for credit cards or bank accounts to try and remain unbiased. Whenever financial institutions contact us offering an affiliate partnership (and this is not just for credit cards/bank accounts) our standard response is that we will forgo our affiliate commission if you can give our readers a better than standard deal.
A lot of times brands/financial institutions are unable to do this because of existing contracts stating that everybody has access to the same offer. For example if the standard offer is $100 for new users and we are suddenly offering $150 because we are forgoing $50 in affiliate commission then existing partners would complain/stop promoting so they are unable to do that.
My family has been deeply affected by Alzheimer’s and I hope one day to see treatment options and a cure. So we have set up a giving page with Cure Alzheimer’s Fund. When brands/financial institutions are not able to offer you (the reader) a better than sign up bonus we will be asking them to donate directly to this fund. I’d like to rotate the charities at some point as well.
The content of the site will not be changing at all and we will not receive any funds, all funds will be donated directly so there can be no mismanagement on our part. Finder is the first brand that has agreed to this new structure and will be donating $10 select deals completed through Doctor of Credit (just requires clicking our link).
At this stage I think it will still be tricky to do something like this with credit cards as having these links comes with a high level of compliance and often prohibits you from talking about certain topics. Obviously raising money for charity is great but being limited in what we can talk about is one of the main reasons we don’t use these links ourselves and if this charity arrangement ever impacts that we would just stop doing it.
Readers are also welcome to donate directly at the following link: https://give.curealz.org/team/821348/
